Boracay is the most popular beach destination in the Philippines. In 2013, it was named Trip Advisor Traveler's Choice in 25 of Asia's top beaches. This is an international beach with local and international themed hotels and restaurants that attract thousands of visitors from around the world every year. This article is a simple guide to the first visit to Boracay.
How to get to BORACAY Island:
From Manila, several low-cost airlines flew to Kalibo and Caticlan airports in Aklan. These include; Cebu Pacific Air, Zest Air and PAL Express [formerly Philippine Airlines]. Try to book tickets a few months in advance to enjoy the promotional fare.
Boracay is located in Aklan and has two airports, Kalibo and Caticlan airports. From the capital, Manila, you can fly to Kalibo Airport and take a 90-minute shuttle bus to Caticlan Jetty.
Another option is to fly to Caticlan Airport and take a 3-minute tricycle to Caticlan Jetty. Flights to Caticlan Airport are usually more expensive as it is closer to the island.
At Caticlan Jetty, you will be charged a mandatory port fee through several windows. Then, go through the security and take the boat to the island. It is a short 5-minute boat ride from the hotel.
Once you land in Boracay, you will need to take a tricycle [local three-wheeled motor vehicle] to your hotel. Depending on the location of your hotel, it may take up to 15 minutes or more.
Shipping and terminal costs:
In Manila
NAIA terminal fee - 200 PHP
In Aklan
From Caticlan Airport to the terminal port, tricycle fare - 50 PHP
From Kalibo Airport to the terminal port, the shuttle bus fee - 150 PHP
At the port of Caticlan Jetty:
Environmental fee - 75 PHP
Port terminal fee - 100 PHP
Boracay, shipping fee - 25 PHP
Tricycle fare - 25 PHP-50 PHP or 100 PHP [depending on whether you share a tricycle with other passengers].
Where to eat cheap food
There is a popular Philippine restaurant called Andok's Manok, which has a branch on the beach between Boat Station 2 and Boat Station 3. There are also several small canteens that offer a 100 to PHP meal that can be found along the beach, on a road parallel to the beach or close to the wet market.
How to do it and how to reduce it
Hotel Reviews from
- Check out previous traveler feedback and comments when booking your stay. There are many good travel resources on the internet to help you decide where to stay. But be careful not to sacrifice quality, not cost, you may get a high price in a budget hotel, but the service may be poor or the facilities are unsanitary. Most high-end hotels are concentrated in the No. 1 boat station, while the cheaper hotels are located at the No. 2 and No. 3 boat stations. You may find the cheapest accommodation at Boat Station 3 as this is the farther and quieter end of the beach. Some tourists like to live at the No. 2 boat station, where there are mini-shops, most restaurants and beach parties. Although you can easily walk from one station to the next, explore the entire 3-4 km long beach.
Money is very important from
- Boracay trip is quite expensive. There are many activities on the beach, restaurants and shops can spend money, and you may make your wallet thin before you realize it. Book and reserve hotel payments. Do not buy too many souvenirs. Know how much you are willing to spend on leisure activities such as diving or water skiing. Finally, always carry some extra cash for those unbudgeted expenses.
Lobbying and hate from
- When buying souvenirs, don't make crazy shopping, at least buy prices from 2 different stores to find the best place to get the best price. Don't hesitate to bargain.
Walking on the beach from
- Take some time to walk from one end of the beach to the other. From all angles, the beach has a different feel.
People watching from
- Boracay is a beautiful island where beautiful people stroll along its shores. Accept the scene and enjoy it.
Take a boat trip from
- Coordinate boat trips with your hotel receptionist or promote these trips along the beach stalls. This is a cheap way to explore the island. Travel time starts at 9:00 am and lasts 5-6 hours. The cost includes snorkeling, snorkeling gear, island hopping and buffet lunch.
• Island hopping day trip - 700 PHP to 800 PHP
• Crystal Cove admission fee - 200 PHP
• Crocodile Island snorkeling fee - 20 PHP
Boracay Fire Dancer from
- In the evening, head to one of the beach bars that host a Fire Dance or Poi Dance Show. Just buy a beer or drink as a gift to sponsor the show's restaurant owner.
Snorkeling or diving from
- Snorkeling will be a cheaper option, but if you want to meet more closely with the vibrant marine ecosystem, go diving. There are several dive shops offering a variety of diving packages. No matter which way you take, take time to enjoy the beautiful coral reefs.
