Listen to your mother: Stand up straight: how the advancer wins, Robert Creamer, 2007, ISBN 0979585295
Based on forty years of practical experience, the book shows that for those who are politically progressive, the importance of properly handling problems is not as good as being a winner.
A sport should focus on two types of voters: persuasives, wavering voters, mobilizers, and supporters who need to be motivated to vote. If an event can deprive an occasional GOP voter or two voters, that's fine, but don't spend a lot of time or money. A sport needs to find and solve people's own interests: physical needs, structural needs, intellectual stimulation, and control over life.
Today, activities based on new media such as blogs, Facebook and Twitter are very attractive. For whatever reason, don't give up the old Get Out the Vote method, such as phone banking, call people multiple times during the campaign, and then knock on the door. People like to be asked to vote.
If the candidate is bored or stupid about these issues, then all the efforts in the world will be worthless. People like to think that candidates are on their side, they are not afraid to stick to their values, they have vision and integrity, and candidates respect voters. After having a good candidate, it is important to have good organizers and field operations that cover the entire region [towns, regions, states].
It is easy to think that the election of President Obama and the current unpopularity of the Republican nation make this book unnecessary or outdated. Nothing is farther than the truth. Relatively speaking, winning an election is easy at the local, state or national level. The hard part is to continue the day-to-day work and let voters realize that progressiveism can become a US-led political philosophy. In addition, Republicans will not be unpopular forever. They will be back, sometimes in 2010, and sometimes in 2012, Progressives can't wait for them to return before they start fighting for the future of the United States. They should now do everything possible to change the competitive environment.
This book is a good starting point. It provides ample information for anyone planning any political activity and highly recommended.
