I was recently asked how in this world I managed to do everything I have to do on any given day. I have a number of companies, at least seven independent brands, and of course personal responsibility and commitment to family and friends. I have heard people describe me like the old "Energizer bunny". The ability to do so much in one day is often impressive. The reality is more straightforward. I give priority to my time to make sure my expenses are good. I know that I can't do anything.
I slept for the same seven hours as most people, but I set the reality for getting up early and getting up early. I spend most of my time waking up at 3 am or 4 am Eastern time. When everyone is sleeping, I have the opportunity to quietly catch up and plan what I need to do that day. I also have time to exercise or even leave a message to see what happens in the news.
I think if I don't know how to manage my time properly, I don't think there is a way to have everything. This is fair. One of the most common questions I get from those who want to start something new is my tips and thoughts on time management. If you find that you don't seem to have time to do what you want to do, here are some ideas to help you improve your time management.
- Time audit: This is a good thing, you can see how you spend time auditing, if you have a smartphone, there are many apps that can help you track. Write down the amount of time you spend on each activity each day, and you'll start to gain the insight you need to know how you spend it. You may be aware of how much you spend a lot of time on an activity that doesn't work well for you. Remember how you spend your time reflecting your priorities. Once the review is complete, redistribute the time based on your real preferences.
- adapt: I think the basic skill that is usually taken for granted is adaptability. People are used creatures, so you have to use this idea. One of the best things you can do for yourself in a changing world is to learn to live outside the comfort zone and stay flexible. For example, if you find in the audit that you have spent too much time dealing with each situation, then you must start to give yourself a deadline, even if these self-imposed goals are uncomfortable, so you end up with no embarrassing analysis.
- time limit: Sometimes you need to do projects or tasks, but they can take up a lot of your time. For example, suppose you want to start a new business and hope to complete some research. Instead of spending hours and entering the rabbit hole, give yourself a time limit and each research session helps with time management. Maybe you spend an hour a day doing research. Setting a time limit will allow you to do more because you won't "excessively" spend time on a particular task.
- Forget multitasking : The brain is not multitasking. Research shows that although we think that we are so productive through multitasking, the reality is that the mind should focus on one task at a time. Multitasking can reduce your efficiency and slow down your speed because your brain must switch between tasks. If you consciously focus on an activity for a particular period and then move on to the next goal, you will get the job done faster and then give yourself more time to do other things.
- plan in advance: I often spend quiet Sundays on weekends. Planning, not dynamic, can help you improve your focus and priorities, saving you time. You can complete any plan for a meeting or schedule, which will help you save time. And, once you've dealt with this week's events, if you only plan an hour of meetings or missions, stick to that period. Once you start to complete within the stipulated time, everything else you plan will begin to be affected.
- Pareto principle: The Pareto principle is the 80/20 rule, meaning that 80% of the results will come from 20% of the actions. Think about it. Much of your success and time efficiency comes from 20% of your efforts. Every day you plan your time, please consider 20% of the activities, these activities will provide you with the most important results. Then focus on spending most of your time on these activities and limit the cost of external and wasted time.
- do not disturb: Similarly, we live in a world of constant distraction and interference. In order for you to successfully achieve the goals you want, you must minimize interference. For some, this may mean switching their smartphones to "Do Not Disturb" so they can enjoy a good night's sleep. For others, this means sending a logo in the office or via email and you will respond to the email within 24 hours. No matter what it is, protect your time because it is precious.
