Mahatma Gandhi said: "Be the change you want to see in the world." Do you want to change one thing in your life, will it improve it?
In the 1930s, a mother and her youngest son walked for hours in the hot sun, lined up with long queues, "to meet the Mahatma Gandhi audience."
She has tried many times to stop her son from eating sweets. She did not say anything to stop him from eating sweets. Therefore, she decided to take him to see his hero Mahatma Gandhi.
It was their turn to finally talk to Mahatma Gandhi. The mother said: "Mao, please tell my son, he must stop eating sweets. Every time you eat sweets will destroy his health, teeth, affect his mood. I can't help stop him from eating more and more sweet. I am worried It will ruin his life. Please, Mahatma, tell him to stop."
Gandhi patiently listened to the mother looking at the child because he was kneeling beside his mother. Gandhi said: "I will come back to me two weeks later."
The mother was disappointed and confused, and Gandhi did not let her son "stop eating sweets." She and her son have gone a long way home.
Two weeks later, the mother and the younger son walked for miles in the hot sun, waiting in line again for their turn to talk to Mahatma Gandhi. When it was their turn, the mother said, "We have come back. We came to see you two weeks ago to help my child stop eating sweets. You want us to come back in two weeks."
Gandhi said, "I remember." For the boy to come forward. He said, "Come here, child."
His mother urged the child to leave her and slowly move to Gandhi. Gandhi reached out and put his hand on the boy's shoulder. He pulled him closer and watched the child say, "Don't eat sweets."
The mother said, "That's it? That's what you have to say? Why didn't you tell him two weeks ago?"
Gandhi replied: "Because I was still eating sweets two weeks ago. As long as I didn't stop, I can't let him stop eating sweets."
As a leader, Gandhi had to turn his bad habits into good habits so that he could lead by example and shape the right behavior for the child. Gandhi is a man of dignity and character.
What can you change in life to improve it? As a leader, what kind of models can you change for your employees and bring changes to your company?
