The last two types use wood as a fuel because actual cooking is taking place. But no matter what type of outdoor activity you want, make sure to use it safely, especially if you have a wooden deck. If you install an outdoor fireplace, make sure it is in a fire-rated area, such as an area made of brick, stone, earth or concrete. Also check the laws of your city. Some states prohibit certain types of outdoor fireplaces, while others allow fireplaces that meet specific specifications.
